Gaurikund Trekking, Uttarakhand trekking

The Kedarnath Yatra’s beginning point and final roadhead are both known as Gaurikund in the Guptakashi district. On the banks of the River Mandakini, Gaurikund deserves to be considered as the entrance to salvation and spirituality. The Gaurikund Temple and Gauri Lake, both historically significant landmarks and the area’s most well-known attractions, stand at an elevation of almost 2,000 metres above sea level. The location has the name Gaurikund after the consort of Lord Shiva, the Goddess Parvati. The location of Goddess Parvati’s penance, which included ascetic and yoga practises, to win over Lord Shiva, according to myths and legends, is Gaurikund. It’s popularly accepted that Lord Shiva agreed to wed Parvati here, and the ceremony thereafter took place nearby in Triyugi Narayan.

The previous 14-kilometer trekking route from Gaurikund to Kedarnath through Rambara was completely destroyed when the devastating floods that struck Kedarnath in 2013 rattled the town. However, as a result of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering’s (NIM) work, the trek path has significantly improved and now feels completely safe, replete with all amenities. There are now decent lodging alternatives in Gaurikund, including dharamshalas, motels, and guest homes. With the exception of March through November, the region usually practically never without a layer of snow covering it.
